Days before the madness that is Lollapalooza, a fellow colleague stopped in my office with a question…”Do we know anyone from the One Direction camp?” As you can imagine, we get asked this question a lot. At first, I assumed this was the standard request for tickets or meet and greet passes, but this type of request was not typical for the person standing in the doorway of my office. While we do not have any official relationship with the group, we do know people who know people. When I asked why and how we could help, I never expected to hear a request like this, and I could not ignore it.
As it it turns out, an industry friend of Shure brought us the story of Campbell Hoyt, the daughter of one of his very good friends. Cam is an 8 year old girl who is dying of ependymoma. She’s been fighting this form of brain and spinal cancer for five years and is now out of options and home on hospice care. Her dying wish is to meet Harry Styles from One Direction. She would even settle on a video message from the group if that was the only reasonable option.
We all collectively started to contact anyone and everyone we know with this request. We still don’t know how this whole thing unfolded, but during a break from the rain at Lollapalooza, just as the sun started to shine through the overcast sky, I received a text with this image from my colleague thanking us for all the help…
Thank you Harry Styles for being a true gentleman and making this little girl’s wish come true. I have nothing but the utmost respect for you.
