The “Buddy” system – an ALL Shure stage.

The storm line was approaching.  We’d been checking the radar on our phones, and anytime between 6 and 9 PM, the rain would hit Nashville.  That didn’t seem to bother this energetic crowd, ready to take in some great blues by the legendary Buddy Guy.

Thankfully , I grabbed my Shure umbrella so my trip back to the car would not be such a wet one. By the time the line hit, it was coming in the stage door/load out entrance onto part of the floor of the venue. I was prepared to give up my umbrella to a couple of friends I had spotted in the audience before Buddy took the stage. Alison Krauss and Dan Tyminski had come out to catch the show but politley declined to take my umbrella.

(Side note: Alison and Union Station will be doing some dates with Willie Nelson this year! Looking forward to that!)

Earlier in the day, I snapped some shots of the mics in use, and monitor engineer Mike Tomaskovic emailed me the plot included in the slideshow below.

Buddy has been a Shure artist for over 20 years, and it’s such a treat to catch his show.  He’s always interacting with the crowd, both on and off the stage, stretching the boundaries of our wireless systems. As he wandered through the crowd halfway through his show, through the venue and up into the balcony, never once did I hear his UHF-R® belt pack or handheld mic drop RF.

The 2 KSM313 ribbon mics on his cabinets make his guitar tone explode through the PA with such clarity.  To top it all off, Buddy is singing through the KSM9HS which provides him an incredible amount of gain in the face of his cabinets staring down the mic.  Front of House engineer Mike “Max” Maxson is a big fan of the KSM313′s.
