Wireless Workbench & Artist Relations
“Times are changing”
“Adapt or die”
Familiar phrases…and oh so true, especially when it comes to these subjects.
I’ve been fortunate to continue to enjoy a long career in Artist Relations. During the last 18 years in this position, technology has evolved and become more in depth. Wireless systems of the past were single channel VHF systems and you had to have the right frequencies for certain cities. If a TV channel was nearby, you had to have a different system altogether with a different frequency. You had to be prepared!
We now have UHF frequency agile systems to navigate these crowded airwaves. To be able to navigate, you need the right tools. In the case of pro Shure wireless systems, that tool is Wireless Workbench – wireless frequency management software that works in tandem with several pieces of Shure wireless hardware.
“Wait….I’m just an Artist Relations guy.” That title is now encompassing so much more. It has to!
I am excited to continue to learn about how wireless is managed on the road, “in the trenches of battle.” After all, I go out to visit with artists and their engineers weekly. I need to be armed with the right tools, be able to provide those answers, and solve their problems to the best of my ability.
To that end, I’ve started a Wireless Workbench “Club” in Nashville. I’ve invited local engineers who use or want to learn the program, suggest ideas on how to continuously improve it, and learn tips from each other on how they use it day to day.
My first meeting was with 3 people, my second with 8, and my meeting for October looks like it will be over 10 people. Starting small and growing…I like that!
Whether you are familiar with Wireless Workbench or not, maybe you can gather a group of engineers in your town together. It’s a great way to network and learn other people’s techniques.
The world of wireless system usage continues to grow and is a vital part of entertainment.
Here is the link for Wireless Workbench 6.
You will have to join a forum to download the software but it is also free and filled with tons of useful information.
I hope you are just as excited as I am. So what are you waiting for….
