NAMM 2016 Awards Roundup

We came, we saw, and we rocked it during an amazing six days at this year’s NAMM® Show. Everyone loved the SM58® Wall of Fame, the next gen KSM8 Dualdyne mic, our killer swag (the coolest t-shirt ever) and, of course, the Shure endorsers who stopped by our booth to share some love with the fans. It was another great, memorable year.

Especially sweet—in particular for the designers, engineers and product development teams back at home—was the recognition that Shure received from the music industry.

What We Won

Shure products—not all of them new—generated a lot of attention and a boatload of awards.

The uber-portable, smartphone-mounted MOTIV MV88 iOS Digital Stereo Condenser Microphone won the TEC® Awards Hardware/Peripherals for Smartphones & Tablets category. In a nod to the past, the 5575LE Unidyne® Limited Edition Vocal Microphone edged out newcomers with a TEC Award win for Sound Reinforcement – Microphones. One of the must-sees (and must-hears) at the Shure booth this year, the revolutionary dual-diaphragm KSM8 microphone picked up a NewBay Super NAMM Award.

But wait! There’s more: Sound on Sound named SRH1840 Professional Open Back Headphones the Best Headphone winner. The PGA181 Side-Address Cardioid Condenser Microphone was included in the list of Electronic Musician Editors’ Choice Awards for Best New Production Tools in the Music Industry. ProSoundWeb and Live Sound International honored five Shure products in the publications’ joint Readers’ Choice Awards. Shure took home awards for the SRH940 Professional Reference Headphones in the Headphones category, ULX-D® Digital Wireless in the Wireless Systems category, PSM®300 in the In-Ear Monitor category, KSM9HS in the Microphones – Condenser Type category, and the ubiquitous, ultra-reliable SM58 in the Microphones – Dynamic Type category.

Whole Lotta Love for the SM58

A half-century after its introduction, the SM58 continues to earn kudos from the industry, sharing honors with the SM57 in winning the Musical Merchandise Review Legacy Award. This new award recognizes products that have dominated their respective categories. According to the editors, “these are truly the crème de la crème: products that have so definitively led—and, in most cases, lapped—the pack, that they deserve special commendation.”

And if that wasn’t showing enough love for these classics, SM58 mic engineer Ernie Seeler was inducted into the NAMM TECnology Hall of Fame. The TECnology Hall of Fame honors audio products and innovations that have made a significant contribution to the advancement of audio technology.

Just the Icing on the Cake

The recognition and awards are gratifying, of course, but the best part of a show like NAMM is that we get to meet and talk to awesome people like you. That fuels our creativity in continuing to bring you the most innovative and reliable audio products in the world.
