OneRepublic has certainly taken hold fast in the music industry. With several successful hits on their latest release and a new album due out this year, they show no signs of slowing down. They gained tons of momentum opening up for the huge U2 stadium tour last year and kicked off a new leg of their tour at the historic Ryman auditorium. During some of my short conversations with the members of the group, they were very excited to be performing here.
The production on stage looked great with a circular video screen surrounded by lights on stage left. It was great to see a set of steel bells on stage right where they could have easily used a bell sound on keys.
The place was packed and the crowd was ready for this. The crowd ranged in age from young teens, college kids, and adults. Lead singer, Ryan Tedder, was full of energy throughout the entire set and his vocal range is pretty impressive. He is currently using the UR2/SM58 wireless for his main vocal position. I also had a chance to chat with him backstage after the show. He cited Michael Jackson and The Beach Boys as some of the artists that have had an influence on his vocal style. Many times, he would hit and hold some very high notes with quite a lot of power behind them. He worked the mic very well as some of those notes could still be heard with the mic held about 2 ft. away from his mouth.
We are looking forward to working with this promising new group and supporting their tour for the new record to come out this year. Keep checking here for more coverage of OneRepublic.
