Pre-Lollapalooza Predictions

Lollapalooza DefinitionThat is the actual definition of Lollapalooza, but Lollapalooza as many of us have come to know it, is the music festival to end all music festivals. It is a 3-day festival that brings in over 100,000 people to Grant Park each year to hear the tunes of their favorites artists. That’s pretty impressive and the lineup is always an attractive sight to see, this year included!

I’ve dreamed of Lollapalooza, I’ve drooled over the lineups for years, and now here I am…going in a matter of days. It will be my first music festival, and it’s one of the biggest so it’s a little intimidating, but I’m excited. Since it is my first festival though, I thought I would log my pre-Lolla thoughts and expectations, and afterwards log my Post-Lolla impressions. So without further ado…

Who I want to see: I want to see everyone…there are so many bands that I want to see play, but just to name a few that I’m most excited about: The Mowgli’s, Vampire Weekend, Alt-J, Tegan and Sara, Matt & Kim, and then my heart is torn between where I’m going to go some of the nights for headliners…Saturday I have to choose between Mumford & Sons and The Postal Service….I’ll probably end up of at Mumford & Sons, but man…The Postal Service…They could be really dull or absolutely incredible. Mumford & Sons is maybe a little more reliable though because you know they’re going to perform well in the festival setting. Then Sunday I’m between Phoenix and The Cure. I’m all about Phoenix if they play mostly Wolfgang Amadeus stuff, but I’m not a huge fan of their most recent album, but I’ll probably end up at that show anyways. There  are a lot of other smaller bands that I’m excited for too such as The Neighbourhood, Blondfire, and Atlas Genius.

What I think Lolla will be like: I think Lollapalooza is going to be hot, crowded with people, a sensory overload, overwhelming, inspiring, a visceral experience…I expect to see some crowd surfing, lots of tank tops, sun dresses, and hats. I expect to wait in line for the bathroom for 20 minutes, meet some strangers that quickly become friends, and have zero ability to use my phone at all, except for picture taking.

Muddy vs. Sunny: Well, looking at the weather there is a chance it will rain Friday so I’m predicting that the ground will be soft and with all the people walking around and jumping up and down, it’s going to get muddy pretty quickly. I will definitely be wearing old shoes that I don’t care about. I’m keeping my fingers crossed for good weather though, because I hear that last year was a nightmare. Two of my fears…crowds and thunder storms, so you would basically be putting me in my worst nightmare if you I was in a crowd of people during a bad thunderstorm haha! So let’s hope for everyone that it is sunny!

Sleep Prediction: I predict that I will get my 8 hours a night in. I mean the shows end at 10…and don’t start up until Noonish every day….but maybe I’m just being naive haha! But I’m always down to continue the fun, so we’ll just see where the nights go…maybe we’ll end wandering the streets with our new found friends from the bathroom line.

I’ve been relying on various internet articles and the wisdom of my coworkers for tips on Lollapalooza, but if you have any of your own leave me some in the comments area below!
