On a chilly and windy Saturday afternoon in Nashville, my father and I made our way down the ramp to the Sommet Center to catch a soundcheck with Roger Daltrey who is out opening for 12 Eric Clapton shows. Fresh off a Superbowl performance with The Who, Roger was ready to rock Nashville… and he did not disappoint. Pulling out some of his favorites from his longtime legendary group, he can still swing that SM58 around like a champion cattle wrangler. Roger and a few of his band mates are among the first to try out Shure’s new PSM 900 system. During his show, Roger commented that performing at the Ryman Auditorium back in November ’09 was among the most memorable shows he’s ever done.
Being a drummer, I always relish the opportunity to catch Steve Gadd. Eric Clapton’s set was wonderful and with Steve at the groove helm, it was smooth sailing. On top of that, the virtually sold-out crowd applauded Shure Endorser Vince Gill as Eric brought him on stage to play acoustic on 4-5 tunes. What a treat! It was also great seeing my Dad enjoy himself so much. Of course, he was leaving on a cruise the next day so he had plenty to smile about! 🙂 – Ryan
