Soundcheck Holiday Party 2010

December 13, 2010 – Nashville, TN

It’s hard to imagine that just 7 months ago, the building that the Shure Nashville Artist Relations office resides in had 3 1/2 feet of water throughout.  Soundcheck is a Nashville staple and to be able to host it’s annual Holiday party after such a tragedy is a wonderful testament to the tremendous support of the Nashville community in bringing Soundcheck back.

This year’s theme was “Under the Christmas Tree” and it took quite a lot of work to bring this theme to life.  Over 100 fake trees were used to create the illusion of a huge tree complete with toy’s and presents .  Speaking of toys, the entry “fee” to get into the party was a new, unwrapped toy.  These toys are then donated to local children’s charities in time for Christmas.  Over 700 guests came to the event!

For this evenings entertainment, Soundcheck always tries to out-do itself.  Naturally, the “Soundcheck Band” opened the show, with yours truly as the musical director.  I was joined by several people who work for Souncheck as well as folks who work for other companies in the Soundcheck complex. We played some Bonnie Raitt, Evanescence, Aretha Franklin, Norah Jones, Martina McBride and a few other tunes.  After our 40 minute set, local artist Trevor Finlay and the Hot Damn Band to the stage with a hot bluesy sound.  Trevor is originally from Canada and is now based in Nashville.

After Trevor finished, I had the pleasure of introducing  an artist we’ve enjoyed a great relationship with for many years – Jo Dee Messina.  Jo Dee suffered losses as a result of the flooding and we were grateful for her willingness to come and entertain us.  After playing several hits, Jo Dee was then followed by another group that Shure has supported for many years – Lonestar.  It was such an honor to introduce these artists and to spend time with them at the party.

Just when you thought the night might be over, we brought on a new group from Canada called Tailor Made Fable.  They closed out the evening with a high energy rock set.

On behalf of Shure, I would like to thank all of the artists that performed at the party.  Your dedication to your craft shows and made our evening so much more special.  I would also like to thank the staff of Soundcheck and our neighbors in the building who worked very hard to make this magical evening a reality.
