Story Of The Year & Flyleaf @ Rocketown

Sept 20, 2010 – Nashville, TN

It has been WAAAY to long since I’ve seen either these bands perform.  I was due for my fix.

Both of these groups consistently put out great new music and perform great live.  I arrived at Rocketown mid afternoon with some replacement gear in tow and proceeded to set up the video camera gear.  I was going to get interviews with BOTH bands…gotta love that!

We knocked out the interview with Flyleaf first with Lacey, Sameer, and Jared then right into SOTY with Dan, Ryan, and Josh.  (Keep an eye out for both of these interviews to appear on our website soon.)

Following the interviews,  I went out to see Story of  The Year soundcheck and checked out their stage. Their UR wireless mics and ULXP guitar systems are holding up well against their high energy show and acrobatics.   If there was ever was a band to test gear for tour “punishment”, this is the band.  If they are standing still on stage, it’s only because someone has poured them cement loafers!  I have a feeling that they’d STILL be able to do back flips off of their amps.  🙂

I left the venue to go pick up my son, also a big fan of these bands, and we returned part way into SOTY’s set.  They showed no signs of slowing down.

Flyleaf is one of the hottest Christian Alternative bands out today and Lacey is such a dynamic singer.  Their sound is all their own and each one of the band members adds their unique flavors.  Out in front, Rich Caldwell (FOH) is creating the sonic landscape, using all Shure mics.  Rich has also been working for a number of year on an amazing new ISO cabinet for guitars.  Keep an ear out for his products to start hitting the market.  The sounds he’s able to get and the control is just what alot of players and engineers will want.

I hooked Rich up with a set of our SRH840 headphones and during the set, he made several positive comments to me regarding how good they sound.  I asked him email me something later.  Rich had this to say about the SRH840 headphones:

“Thanks again for the hookup in the headphones, they have amazing depth and detail. The isolation and clarity is so faithful that I am able to use them mid-show to make corrections to the mix that I could not otherwise hear in the live PA. I have never trusted a pair of headphones to drive the main mix until now.”

I had a great night visiting with all the groups and their very accommodating crews.  Thanks to all!
