NAB 2015: Day One at the Shure Booth

Every year, the National Association of Broadcasters (or NAB) brings content creators from across the globe together for a week of learning and networking in Las Vegas. With attendees representing industries ranging from broadcast to podcast, church to school, run-and-gun documentary to film, there’s a lot to see and do at the 2015 NAB Show. And Shure has products on display for each and every attendee!

If you can’t make it to Booth #C1058 to visit us, allow me to be your virtual guide through all the great things people can see and demo this year.

MOTIV Digital Microphones and Recording Solutions

MOTIV is making its first appearance at the NAB Show after a successful debut at NAMM just a few months ago. Slated to ship this summer, these portable mics are available for a test drive at Booth #C1058. Whatever your recording needs are, there’s a MOTIV mic to match: the versatile  MV5, the sleek MV51, the adept MVi interface, the adroit MV88 iOS mic, and joining the ranks, the newly announced MVL condenser lavalier microphone.

The MVL is a great addition to the MOTIV line. It is compatible with iOS and Android devices and plugs directly into your smartphone’s headphone jack. The MVL is ideal for dictation, field recording, electronic news gathering, wedding videography, or any other application where you need to capture great-sounding recordings on your mobile device.

Headphones, Earphones and Headset Microphones

People are always asking where they can listen to our world-class headphones and earphones. The trade shows where we exhibit are a prime place to do so, and the NAB Show is no exception. We have a selection of our SRH Headphones and SE Sound Isolating Earphones available for your listening pleasure.

But that’s not all we have to offer at the listening station. Shure also makes a line of broadcast headsets called the BRH series. This year at NAB, we are happy to announce a new addition to the line, the BRH50M, our first broadcast headset for on-screen talent looking for Shure quality sound and durability. The closed-back, supra-aural earcups combine with a high-performance dynamic cardioid microphone to give you the one-two punch of Shure headphone and microphone sound quality. The BRH50M comes with a detachable dual XLR / 1/4″ cable and a rigid boom mic that rotates 270 degrees, allowing it to be worn on either the right or left side. It was tested extensively with both the NFL and NBA to ensure we had a headset that provided great sound quality and durability, all with a sleek and appealing on-camera aesthetic.

Wireless Products

A wide selection of Shure wireless is on display, ranging from the workhorse QLX-D system all the way to our top-of-the-line Axient® system. We also have portable wireless options from our FP and UHF-R® systems on view for those who need great wireless sound out in the field. Our wireless in-ear systems, the PSM®900, PSM®1000, and the most recent addition, PSM®300, are all on display and offer great IFB (Interruptible Fold Back) solutions for audio monitoring and cueing in live broadcast situations such as television and radio. The Microflex Wireless Systems on display have made a splash in boardrooms and AV conferencing environments across the world, and they easily can make the transition to the broadcast studio.

On display with all of our wireless solutions is the newest iteration of our network control and frequency coordination software, Wireless Workbench®. Just announced at this NAB Show, WWB 6.11 offers some useful updates to a program already widely used for every facet of a performance, from pre-show planning to networked control and monitoring during an event. This newest update is the most comprehensive yet and includes the ability to make batch edits and subset frequency calculations that can be saved for later deployment, plus an improved monitoring interface that utilizes a channel strip layout. The new version will be available for download later this month.

Wired Mics

Of course, in addition to all our wonderful wireless and listening products, we have a great display of the wired mics the industry has grown to rely upon. We have our VP Shotgun and LensHopper® mics alongside the SM and KSM lines. The lovely limited edition 5575LE is also on display; if you’re at the show, don’t forget to swing by and get your badge scanned because we will be selecting one lucky visitor a day to win one of these beauties.
